The Larchmont Garden Club was founded in March of 1956 with a goal to "stimulate horticultural and artistic floral interests, and to develop garden knowledge and to promote friendship." Originally they planned to focus heavily on horticulture, but they quickly broadened out to include artistic programs as well. In their second year they hosted their first flower arranging workshop. In their third, they organized their first annual Flower Show. Throughout the year they held programs to teach members about flowers and horticulture while also helping the community by planting flowers at schools and other places.
