Biographical / Historical

The Barbara Jordan Post Office, originally the 1962 Downtown Houston Post Office, Processing, and Distribution Center (Houston P&DC) is located at 401 Franklin Street in downtown Houston. Designed by prominent Houston architectural firm, Wilson, Morris, Crain, & Anderson, it was formally opened on January 1, 1963. The building was renamed for US Congresswoman, Barbara Jordan, in August 1984. The facility functioned as a post office until 2015, then sat vacant for several years. After redevelopment, the building is set to reopen in Fall 2021 as POST Houston which will serve as a concert venue, market hall, retail and office space. It will also include a large rooftop park and farm.
