Robert P. Boyce Papers

Scope and Contents

This collection is comprised of a scrapbook, which contains newspaper clippings and mementos, a handwritten memoir and corresponding typescripts, maps, and photographs from the life of Robert P. Boyce. Included are souvenir ribbons from Confederate soldier reunions and Confederate currency with the serial numbers written by hand.

Biographical Note

Robert P. Boyce was born in Cincinnati, Ohio on June 16, 1816. Prior to Texas, Boyce also lived in Natchez, Mississippi, and New Orleans, Louisiana. He fought in the Texas Revolution as a Texian. During the Revolution he was tasked with guarding Mexican General Santa Anna after the Texian victory at the Battle of San Jacinto. After the Texas Revolution, Boyce settled in Houston's Third Ward. Later, Boyce served in the Confederate Army during the Civil War. He died on February 16, 1890 in Houston.

Due to their fragile condition, some original materials are restricted. Photocopies of the originals are stored with the collection and will be the use copies.
