Biographical / Historical

The Houston Old Town Development Corporation was formed in 1978 as a non-profit company to preserve, develop and rejuvenate Houston's northern downtown area as a viable residential, commercial and entertainment/recreational center. Rita Estes was a driving force behind the organization. The Houston Old Town Development Corporation hired preservationist Minnette Boesel and architectural historians Barrie Scaridno and Stephen Fox to gather documentation in support of an application to the National Register of Historic Places, which was produced and filed in 1983-1984. The area known as the Main Street/Market Square Historic District described in the application is between Buffalo Bayou, Milam Street, Texas Avenue and San Jacinto Street. The Corporation appears to no longer be active.
