Biographical / Historical

Hugo V. Neuhaus, Jr. was born in Houston on March 5, 1915. After attending Yale and Harvard, and serving in World War II, Neuhaus returned to Houston. He worked with Kenneth Franzheim for two years before joing the firm of C. Herbert Cowell. By 1949, he was Cowell's partner and the firm became known as Cowell and Neuhaus. In 1967 Neuhaus started his own firm of Neuhaus Associates which existed until his retirement in 1980. Neuhaus died on July 21, 1987.

Graham B. Luhn was born on February 23, 1937. A native of San Antonio, he moved to Houston after serving in the military and graduating from the University of Texas at Austin. HE quickly got a job with architect Cameron Fairchild and worked in his office for several years. Luhn then worked with Hugo Neuhaus for several years in the late 1960s before starting his own firm in 1970. Throughout his independent practice, he remained in close contact with Fairchild and Neuhaus. He also frequently worked on alterations and additions to buildings they designed. As of 2021, Luhn's firm is celebrating over 50 years in operation.
