Lois Brantley Collection
Scope and Contents
The Lois Brantley Collection houses the professional papers of Lois Brantley. This collection, which dates from 1930 to 2003, includes records such as teachers’ notice of appointments, transcripts, letters of recommendation, teaching credientials, certificates, correspondence, photographs, degrees, and event programs. Many of the materials within the collection document her career and professional development as an educator within the Houston Independent School District.

Biographical note
Lois McCall Brantley was born on April 25, 1907 in Houston, Texas. She attended graduated from Booker T. Washington High School. She recieved a Bachelor of Science degree from Praire View A & M University in 1930 and a Masters in Education from the University of Houston in 1947. She taught in the Houston Independent School District during the 1940s at Douglas Elementary. On August 19, 1952, she was appointed the seventh Principal of the Gregory School by the Board of Education. She would remain in this position until her retirement in 1971. In retirement she was recognized for her work and dedication in serving the Harris Country Retired Teachers Association. She was also active in civic organizations, such as the Eldorado Social Club, Tierwester Civic Association, and the Candy Stripers. She passed away at the age of 95, on February 21, 2003.
