Scope and Contents
The Madeleine and Booker Wright Collection contains the personal papers of Madeline and Booker Wright. This collection, which dates from 1991 to 1998, consists of correspondence, books, newspaper clippings, photographs, sketchbooks of Booker's drawings, architectural plans, and business documents pertaining to Madeleine and Booker Wright practices in and the Caroline Medical Plaza. This collection is valuable for research on African American medical professionals and entrepreneurs.
Series I: Correspondence (1989-1997) contains Correspondence to Sponsors, Correspondence to Madeleine Wright, and other Correspondence.
Series II: Literary Material (1987-2007) contains "Sisters Helping Sisters", written by Madeleine Wright, and other authors. This series also includes a family history book of the Pate-Paradise family.
Series III: Photographs (no dates given) contains photographs of Caroline Medical Plaza and Booker T. Wright. This series also contains photographs of portraits painted by Booker T. Wright.
Series IV: Printed Materials (1994-2010) contains Newspaper Clippings related to Madeleine Wright, an advertisement for Madeleine Wright's lecture, "What's Different About Haiti?", and her report "Strengthening Developing Institutions". It also contains a program for a leadership conference at Harvard University.
Series V: Legal Documents (1989) contains the Madeleine Wright's Oath of Office for the Governor's Commission for Women.
Series VI: Sketchbooks (2003) contains the sketchbook of drawings by Booker T. Wright.
Series VII: Audio Visual (2005) contains HCC Newsline program including interview with Dr. Madeleine Wright speaking about HCC's Psychology Fair.
Series VIII: Caroline Medical Plaza (1992-1994) contains floor plans, architectural plans, billing documents, architect's certificate, budgetary guesstimates, permits, release of lien, logo, and appraisal of Caroline Medical Plaza. It also includes announcements, flyers, and the logo for the Metropolitan Orthopaedics Associates.
Series IX: Houston Gladden Society (2003-2004) contains the club roster, membership forms, newsletters, and minutes of meetings from the Houston Gladden Society.
Series X: Architectural Plans (1998) contains the architectural plans for the Wright Residence.

Biographical / Historical
Dr. Booker and Dr. Madeleine Wright were longterm residents and medical professionals in Houston. Dr. Madeleine E. Wright was a psychologist and long time professor at Houston Community College. She received her undergraduate degree in Family Life Education from Wayne State University in 1969. She received her PhD in Guidance and Counseling from the University of Michigan in 1975. For six years she served on the board of Wheeler Avenue Baptist Church Girl's Rites of Passage program. She directed the African American Dance Society for ten years.
Dr. Booker T. Wright, MD was a physician in Houston Texas who specialized in Orthopaedic Surgery. He attended Wayne State Universiy where he recieved an undergraduate degree; he received his MD from the University of Michigan. Wright is certified by the American Board of Orthopaedics. His offices were located in Caroline Medical Plaza.
