Biographical / Historical
In conjunction with the ALA National Preservation Week (May 9-15, 2010), the African American Library at the Gregory School celebrated collecting and preservation in the community, highlighting the institution as a source of preserving information. Local Boy Scout troops from the greater Houston area participated in the event by performing demonstrations on crafts, making various hats and flowers out of everyday paper products at the Gregory School.
The highlight of the event was the creation of a time capsule to house items of 2010 collected by the Boy Scouts. The Archivist presiding over the sealing and storage of the time capsule was Vince Lee. The items selected and included were done with the intent that they would best communicate to future generations, what life was like during this period. The capsule has been sealed and locked within the archives, with express instructions that it is not to disturbed or reopened until 25 years hence on May 16th, 2035 at 11:00am Central Standard Time by the future Lead Archivist.
