The Moses Leroy Collection contains correspondence, clippings on local and national politics, photographs, awards and miscellaneous relevant to a study of the civil rights movement in Houston and in the United States. Also it contains publications related to the model citites program. The materials date from 1945-1976.

Biographical Note
Moses Leroy became a noted labor and Civil Rights leader in the Houston area. An employee of the Southern Pacific Railroad for more than forty years, Moses Leroy fought to end discrimination and oppression for railway workers. Leroy was also involved in civic and political affairs. He became active in the Model Cities program in Houston in the 1970's and served on the Board of Directors of the Y.M.C.A. Leroy also served on the executive board of the NAACP in the 1940's, and later served as Vice-President of the Texas Council of Voters.

Custodial History
These records were formerly housed at the Houston Metropolitan Research Center, Houston Public Library as MSS 0090 Moses Leroy Collection, and were transferred to the African American Library at the Gregory School, Hosuton Public Library in March 2019.
