Biographical / Historical

The National Forum for Black Public Administrators (NFBPA) was created in 1983 as a professional membership organization dedicated to the advancement of Black leadership in the public sector. Membership includes managers and executives in all disciplines represented in state and local governments.

The Houston Chapter of the NFBPA was chartered and established in April 1986, along with 16 other chapters. Election of officers was held, policies developed and the organization’s 501c status was established. Major Brock served a one-year term as the chapter’s first president. Houston is one of the largest, fastest growing chapters in the organization. NFBPA Houston has received local and national recognition for the professional development and community engagement opportunities offered and performed by its members and partners. Some activities include voter registration drives, the Rebuild Houston Project, annual Christmas toy drive, professional development, and providing scholarships to college and high school students.
